1261 Grenada Film Festival returns in-person

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GRENADA, ST. GEORGE, October 24, 2022 — The 4th edition of the 1261 Grenada Film Festival (1261FilmFestival) begins October 26- 30th, 2022, launching a program of 8 feature films and 25 shorts.

After two pandemic years that relied heavily on streaming, the festival is returning to in-person screenings and experiences in St. Andrews and St. George at venues that now include the Deluxe Cinema, Olympic Building, and two outdoor locations. The aim is to further the art and craft of film in Grenada by inspiring and championing artists' work to tell stories that focus on "Cultural Confidence '' that displays a relatable side of humanity and lived experiences relatable to our audiences.

The 1261 Film Festival organizers ditched a fancy opening night for a historical community tour of La Digue Community to pay homage to the legacy of Louis Little, Malcolm X's mother, and all Grenada's impact leaders. A free retrospective screening of Malcolm X will follow the tour in front of the Lobby Bar (AKA Amigo's bar) in Union, St. Andrews. This year's edition is a unique celebration of Grenada, our forefathers and mothers who made global impacts, and our next generation of storytellers and influencers documenting current history.

This year also includes guests from the international film and creative community: Director Michael Djaba, Chioma Akpotha, Lisa Raye McCoy, Mahogany L. Browne, Rico Frederick, and Caroline Rothstein from JustMedia.org.

As part of our commitment to developing the creative sector and celebrating the creativity and talent of Grenada, for the first time, we are spotlighting films with Grenadian topics, filmmakers, and people.
